Early Year 2 – Learning Project: Papier Mâché Mask (Day 5)
After four fun and creative days, the EY2 students completed their “Papier Mâché Mask” project and eagerly shared their work with the class. Each child presented their mask, explaining how it was made, the challenges they faced, and the reasons behind their design choices. Some masks were bright and bold, while others were detailed and unique, showcasing each child’s personal style.
The project introduced young learners to the power of design thinking, a process that encourages problem-solving, creativity, and innovation. By applying design thinking, the children learned how to approach challenges step by step, from brainstorming ideas to testing and refining their designs. This hands-on process helped develop not only their artistic skills but also their ability to think critically and solve problems.
The presentations also gave the children a chance to practice speaking in front of others and explaining their ideas. In doing so, they developed important communication skills that will be beneficial for their future.
The project encouraged the children to appreciate the diversity of ideas around them as well. As they admired one another’s masks, they learned to respect and value different perspectives. This helped them build global competence, understanding that creativity and ideas can differ from person to person. Throughout the project, the children displayed enthusiasm, creativity, and respect for each other’s work. ***
