Early Year 2: Introduction to Olympic
EY2 students were very enthusiastic when introduced to the biggest sporting celebration in the world ‘the Olympics’. In PE, they learnt about the history of the Olympics in simple terms and were introduced to sportsmanship and some of the sports that are contested. In the Language lesson, they learnt about how the Olympics is conducted. One of them was the Olympics held in Japan in 2020. Students were given the knowledge that medals at that time were made using metals in Japanese electronic devices that were collected for a long time. This fact makes students realise the benefits of protecting the environment. Furthermore, in Maths they made their own medals by attaching sequins according to a certain pattern. After that, students enthusiastically did a running race and made patterns using colour blocks or balls. The race was very exciting and all students tried to do their best. The supporters were no less enthusiastic. On the other hand, the teachers as the referee also did their job well, so the students had to play sportively. Through these activities, students are invited to learn about the value of ‘giving your best effort and not giving up easily’ in a series of structured and fun activities. Students can also learn about the Olympics according to their needs and abilities and make it a meaningful learning. ***
