Early Year 2 – English: I’m A Builder
As part of their ongoing exploration of the “Playing Outside” theme, EY2 students took part in an imaginative and interactive activity called “I’m a Builder.” In this activity, students pretended to be builders, using construction kits to explore tools and materials while engaging in playful language practice.
They asked and answered questions like “What is this?” and “This is a…,” while also learning to use possessive phrases such as “This is my screw” and “That is his screw.” Practicing these phrases in a fun, circle-time setting helped students expand their vocabulary, strengthen communication skills, and deepen their understanding of basic grammar in a natural, meaningful way.
Working in small groups, students then used Lego and building blocks to create simple structures. This hands-on task encouraged collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving. By presenting their creations to the class, students also developed confidence in public speaking and discovered the value of teamwork in reaching a shared goal.
This engaging activity beautifully combined language learning with social-emotional growth, reinforcing the joy of learning through play. ***
