Early Year 2 – English: Exploring the Dark Deep Sea

In English lesson, EY2 children were introduced to the deep sea, a dark place that hides many fascinating things. They learned about unique sea creatures such as angler fish, giant squid, and glowing jellyfish. Through pictures and simple discussions, the children explored new vocabulary and shared what they already knew about the ocean.

To make the learning meaningful, the lesson moved into a sensory experience. The lights were turned off, and children crawled under tables covered with black cloth. Using torches, they searched for deep-sea vocabulary hidden inside. This activity helped children experience darkness in a safe and playful way. Many children are afraid of the dark, and learning through fun exploration allowed them to build positive feelings together with their friends.

After the activity, every child had a turn to draw the deep sea and copy the new vocabulary. This process supported language development, creativity, and confidence, while helping children connect English learning with real experiences.
