Early Year 2 – Creative Expression: The Journey of the Tiny Seed
A warm sense of excitement filled the room as children and parents took part in the Creative Expression session. The day began with a playful challenge. Pairs of parents and children tried to guess different herbs by smell alone. Hidden inside small covered cups, the herbs could not be seen, only sensed. Laughter and curiosity grew as they carefully sniffed and made their guesses, turning learning into a shared and memorable experience.
The children then worked in groups to present what they had learned about herbal plants such as ginger, turmeric, cutcherry, and lemongrass. Each group shared simple explanations with growing confidence. This was followed by a planting activity, where children and parents planted herbs together, connecting knowledge with real-life action in a meaningful way.
The highlight of the session was the performance, The Journey of the Tiny Seeds. Through singing, rhymes, and dance, the children brought their learning to life. Their costumes and decorations, carefully created with guidance over the past week, added colour and meaning to every movement. They performed with enthusiasm, clearly eager to show their parents what they had prepared.
Moments like these stay with children long after the day ends. They learn to express themselves, to collaborate, and to take pride in their efforts. For parents, it offers a deeper glimpse into their child’s growth. More importantly, it reminds us that meaningful learning happens when children are given space to explore, create, and feel truly supported.
