Early Year 2 – Arts: Making a Pot with Paper Weaving
EY2 students explored a creative and meaningful arts activity as they learned to make their own pot and plant artwork. From the beginning, they showed curiosity and enthusiasm as they engaged with the materials and prepared to create something of their own.
Students then moved into the weaving activity, where they carefully followed step-by-step guidance to create patterns using paper strips. With patience and focus, they practiced placing each strip over and under, gradually building their understanding of patterns while strengthening their fine motor skills. Each student worked at their own pace, showing perseverance and a sense of accomplishment as their woven pots began to take shape.
In the next activity, students expressed their creativity by drawing and colouring their own plants. They explored how simple shapes could come together to form meaningful and unique pictures. As they worked, they made thoughtful choices in their designs and colours, taking pride in creating artwork that reflected their own ideas.
To complete the project, students combined both parts by pasting their woven pots onto their plant drawings. They were excited to present their creations and confidently shared simple descriptions of their work. Through this activity, students not only developed their creativity, but also strengthened their hand-eye coordination, ability to follow instructions, and confidence in expressing their ideas in a clear and meaningful way.
