Early Year 1: Weather Awareness & Safety Skills Through Outdoor Play at BASARNAS

EY1 students continued their learning through an outdoor experiential visit to BASARNAS as part of the Playful Learning with Nature and Weather Wonders themes. Through this contextual learning experience, students explored weather awareness, safety, and the role of community helpers by engaging in meaningful real-life situations. Students were introduced to BASARNAS by listening to officers’ explanations and observing rescue tools, uniforms, and vehicles.

During the visit, students participated in guided activities such as touring rescue equipment, riding rescue vehicles, and observing flood and earthquake simulations. They followed simple instructions, asked questions, and practised identifying cause-and-effect relationships, such as how heavy rain can lead to flooding and how rescuers help people stay safe.

Through these concrete, real-world experiences, students deepened their understanding of how weather conditions can create real-life risks and the importance of taking appropriate safety actions. This program helped EY1 students understand how weather affects people and the environment, build awareness of basic safety actions during floods or earthquakes, recognise BASARNAS as community helpers, and develop simple problem-solving skills in emergency situations.
