Early Year 1 – Science: Stuck in the Mud
EY1 students listened to the story Mr. Gumpy’s Motor Car, about a kind man who took children and farm animals for a ride through the village. When it started raining, the muddy road caused the car to get stuck. Children were invited to connect the story to real life by imagining what they would do in a similar situation. They explored this idea through an experiment using toy cars on smooth and slippery surfaces, as well as wet soil and mud. Just like in the story, their toy cars got stuck too.
This activity connected literacy, science, and imaginative thinking. It encouraged children to observe cause and effect, explore problem-solving, and express creative ideas, all while having fun through hands-on learning. ***
