Early Year 1 – Science: Sinking and Floating

EY1 students enthusiastically conducted the hands-on science activity. They explored the concept of sinking and floating using a glass container filled with water and a variety of everyday objects such as plastic balls, paper clips, coins, etc. Each student was encouraged to make predictions about whether an item would sink or float before placing it into the water, and then observe the outcome. They took turns and participated actively by sharing their thoughts and observations.

This experiment supports students’ cognitive development by introducing them to the concept of cause and effect in a fun and engaging way. It promotes early scientific thinking, enhances language skills through discussion and description, and supports fine motor development through hands-on interaction. Additionally, the activity fosters cooperation, patience, and turn-taking, contributing to their social and emotional growth. ***
