Early Year 1 – Maths: Shapes on the Spin!
This week, EY 1 students continued their learning about toys and were introduced to a fun new one; the spinner! After watching how the teacher played with it, the students were so excited to make their own spinner.
As part of this activity, the students reviewed shapes and sight words in a playful way. First, they colored different shapes, then matched each picture with the right sight word. Afterwards, they placed a coin in the middle to complete their spinner. The best part was when they got to spin it themselves and name the shapes that appear.
Through this hands-on activity, the students learned shapes in a way that felt like play. At the same time, they practiced important skills such as recognizing shapes and sight words, strengthening their fine motor, and building confidence when sharing answers.
Most importantly, the students experienced the joy of learning. They discovered that learning can be both fun and meaningful, leaving a lasting impact on their confidence and love for exploring new things. ***
