Early Year 1 – Maths & English: Let’s Order and Count
EY1 students joined engaging integrated activities of maths and English lessons. They started the lesson by recognising the rules of ordering food in the restaurant as well as recognising each role like chef, cashier, cleaning service, and the waiter or waitress. The students were set to play certain roles and acting like they were in the real restaurant.
Through this activity, the students were encouraged to learn concept of number as they were pretending to order certain number of foods. Not only mathematics skill, the students also had the chance to develop their language skill when they spoke some simple sentences. Vocabularies recognition was exposed as they mention the menu of the restaurant.
Learning through role play helped the students to involve navigating scenarios that help them to think critically. By playing on different roles, the students had chance to develop their ability to see things from different perspectives, enhancing empathy.
