Early Year 1 – Maths: Camel Caravan
EY1 students enthusiastically explored the world of camels, learning about how these amazing animals carry loads on their humps in the desert.
To bring this concept to life, students started by observing and counting items that a camel might carry, practicing number recognition, and learning to identify “the number after.” Next, they formed their own “camel caravan.” The first student held a camel doll, leading the line as the others followed, counting each step in sequence.
Keeping the line unbroken challenged students to think strategically, reinforcing their understanding of numbers and strengthening their logical-mathematical skills. As they moved together in rhythm, they also developed their bodily-kinesthetic coordination and teamwork. This engaging, hands-on experience made learning both fun and impactful, blending counting, movement, and cooperation in a memorable way. ***
