Early Year 1 – Maths and Arts: Building Igloos Like the Inuit!

EY1 students continued their exciting adventure by pretending to be Inuit people building igloos! During their math lesson, they took on the challenge of stacking white styrofoam blocks according to the numbers displayed, simulating the ice blocks used in real igloo construction. This hands-on activity provided a fun, tangible way for students to understand numbers and counting.

The learning adventure extended into art class, where the students created beautiful igloo collages. They cut and pasted white paper to craft their own imaginative versions of igloos, further enhancing their creative expression.

By integrating these activities, students not only explored Inuit culture but also engaged multiple intelligences. They developed their visual-spatial skills through the art of collage-making and strengthened their logical-mathematical thinking through counting and number recognition. These interactive lessons provided a well-rounded and engaging learning experience, sparking curiosity and encouraging creativity in a meaningful way.. ***
