Early Year 1 Madrid – Science : Floating and Sinking

In Science, EY1 students learned about sinking and floating objects. Before the experiment, students were invited to create their own boat using the provided materials, such as ice cream sticks, straws, and Styrofoam. Students seemed very enthusiastic to work together and test out their craft. They placed their boat in the water and found out whether it would float or sink. Furthermore, students also had a further experiment by dropping some objects such as scissors, paperclips, pencils, and a pebble into a bucket of water. This activity taught students how and why different things float and sink when placed in water. This activity also enables the students to develop their scientific thinking through observation, predictions, and cause and effect. ***
