Early Year 1 – Exit Point: “Let’s Play Outside”
As the exit point of the learning on “Let’s Play Outside” theme, EY 1 students did a series of activity, such as making poster, having community service and doing the experiment to filter the water. At the first activity, students made the poster “AYO CUCI TANGAN” and had the community service by visiting Nursery and Toddler students. They delivered simple campaign about the importance of washing hands. Integrating the campaign activity with Bahasa Indonesia lesson, students were able to develop their communication skill and built their confidence to speak in front of others.
Next activity was having the filtering water experiment in which students were given chance to express their knowledge they had learned during the theme by filtering the murky water. Students were excited to see the way how to filter the water demonstrated by the teacher. After that they had to work in group to have their own experiment. Students were given some materials as the filtering media, such as pebbles, cotton, sand and coconut fiber. Through the experiment, students found out that they could get clear water by filtering the murky water. This experiment offered some advantages for the students by combining hands-on learning with the basic scientific concepts. Students were able to experience the sensory exploration as they touched, observed, and even smelt the materials involved in the process. It also activated students’ critical thinking and raised their awareness about the importance of clean water and environmental responsibility. Besides, students were able to develop their collaboration and team work.
