Early Year 1 – Entry Point: Weather Wonders

To kick off their new theme, EY1 students participated in an Entry Point Activity focused on exploring different types of weather. The activity began with students eagerly gathering around a mystery box. When they opened it, they discovered a rain stick and various weather symbols like the sun, clouds, and rain. This initial exploration allowed students to identify and recognize familiar weather elements, sparking their curiosity and building excitement for the theme.

After discovering the items in the mystery box, students were given the chance to play with the rain stick. As they tilted it back and forth, they listened closely to the sound it produced, which mimicked the sound of falling rain. This hands-on experience engaged their senses, allowing them to connect the sound with the concept of rain in a memorable way.

Following this sensory activity, the teacher led a discussion about different types of weather and how each type affects our daily lives. Students shared their own experiences with sunny, rainy, and cloudy days, making connections between what they observed in the classroom and what they encountered in the real world. This discussion helped them start to understand how weather can impact their choices, such as what to wear and where to play.

The Entry Point Activity provided a multi-sensory introduction to weather, encouraging EY1 students to recognize, describe, and relate weather concepts to their own lives. By linking new knowledge to personal experiences, the activity set a strong foundation for further exploration, helping students understand the practical ways in which weather influences their daily routines. ***
