Early Year 1 – Entry Point: Let’s Play Outside
EY1 students recently kicked off the theme Let’s Play Outside with an adventurous outdoor day filled with energy and fun. The activities were thoughtfully designed to encourage teamwork, physical movement, and exploration.
The day began with a lively relay race of transferring water, which brought bursts of laughter and excitement. Students worked together to transfer water using cups that had small holes, adding an extra layer of challenge to the activity. This made the race even more engaging, as the children had to strategize and move quickly to minimize water loss while filling their team’s container. This activity not only strengthened gross motor skills but also encouraged patience, problem-solving, and teamwork as they collaborated.
Building on the excitement, the children then participated in the water gun challenge. Vocabulary pictures were hung on strings, and the students used water sprays to knock them down. As each picture fell, the children practiced saying the vocabulary aloud. This activity also sharpened their focus, hand-eye coordination, and emotional regulation as they waited their turn to participate.
To deepen their connection with nature and enhance the sensory experience, all students were encouraged to go barefoot during the activities. Their joyful expressions and laughter reflected their pure enjoyment, even as their clothes became wet. Afterward, they practiced their practical life skills by independently changing into dry clothes.
Through these playful and purposeful activities, the children were able to move, think, and communicate in meaningful ways that supported their overall development. Whether working as a team, practicing new vocabulary, or building life skills, they ended the day with lasting memories and a renewed excitement for outdoor learning.
