Early Year 1 – English: Mudpie Annie

Early Year 1 – English: Mudpie Annie

EY1 students had an interesting activity of comprehending story in English lesson. They started by listening to the story of Mud Pie Annie by Sue Buchanan & Dana Shafer and talking about the scenario of the story.

Experiencing the story, they were invited to have simple play-pretend to be the main character from story in school playground. They were provided some natural materials like clay, soil, grass, twig, leaf, and flower to be used to create their own mudpie just like Annie in the story. Through this role play, the students used their imagination to create the mudpie. They also had chance to develop their tactile skill while they were grabbing some natural materials to add topping for their mudpie.

Providing engaging learning like this also helped the students to practice solving the problems, figuring out scenarios, and thinking critically. It also helped them to boost creativity and helped with understanding the world.
