Early Year 1 – English: Making Kite

Early Year 1 – English: Making Kite

EY1 students were introduced to toys from around the world through a fun and interactive game, where they learned to appreciate different playthings and the diverse cultures they represent. They then explored the story of kites, gaining an understanding that making a kite requires effort, patience, and persistence. This helped students make meaningful connections between the value of not giving up and their real-life experiences.

In art class, the students created their own simple kites by pasting pictures and sight words of thematic vocabulary onto each line of a kite outline. They added long paper tails and coloured the kites using their favourite colours. These kites were later arranged as if in an exhibition, allowing students to practise showing appreciation for their peers’ creations.

This activity supported the development of fine motor skills, creativity, and vocabulary recall. At the same time, it encouraged social-emotional learning as students engaged in respectful and encouraging interactions with one another. Through this meaningful and hands-on experience, students not only built academic and artistic skills but also developed values that contribute to a positive classroom community. ***
