Early Year 1 – English: Dinosaur Opposite Book
EY1 students revisited the story “Dinosaur, Dinosaur” as their entry point to explore opposite words through an active and hands-on learning experience. They began by recalling dinosaur body parts they had previously learned and followed simple actions and gestures to better understand opposite concepts. Students then matched thematic opposite pictures such as long tail-short tail, small horn -big horn, sharp spikes-blunt spikes, fierce- friendly, etc. Through this discussion, they learned that opposite words help us describe and compare things more clearly.
After observing examples, students worked collaboratively in small groups to create their own Dinosaur Opposites Book. They drew dinosaur pictures based on the instruction given.
This activity supported students in building vocabulary, understanding opposite concepts, strengthening early reading skills, developing teamwork, expressing creativity, and growing confidence through simple presentations.
