Early Year 1 – BMC Challenge cards: Modelling

Early Year 1 – BMC Challenge cards: Modelling

To start the BMC series, the students were first introduced to the real conditions of the orphanages and grandmothers in nursing home through storytelling, videos, and simple role play. These experiences helped them understand the situations of others in a gentle and age-appropriate way.

Their empathy was then encouraged as they began to share what they wished to contribute. The students talked about the items they wanted to donate, how many they hoped to give, and which place they wanted to support. This process helped them think carefully about the needs of others.

Next, they moved on to planning and shopping. With their lists in hand, they eagerly selected the items they had decided on. This hands-on experience made their plans feel real and meaningful, and they enjoyed working together to make thoughtful choices.

this activity not only nurtured empathy and helped students recognise the needs of others, but also supported their thinking skills through the Realistic Maths Education approach. By working with real-life information, they learned to read data, notice simple patterns, and use basic maths in a meaningful way.
