Early Year 1 – Arts: Meerkat

EY1 students learned about 2D shapes through an art activity. They began by singing a shape song to review basic shapes. Then, they looked at pictures of Arctic and desert animals and noticed that parts of their bodies can be made using simple shapes.

Students followed step-by-step instructions to make a 2D meerkat. They drew the face parts, coloured the body with crayons, and added the hands and legs by colouring and cutting them out. In the final step, they assembled all the parts to complete their meerkat.

This activity helped students recognise shapes, follow instructions, develop fine motor skills, and practice creativity. ***
