Baby Class – Sensory Play: Sticky, Slippery Eggs

It was sensory playtime for Baby Tweet, and the teacher prepared an exciting and safe activity using edible pearl sago mixed with colorful plastic eggs. Safety was a top priority for this activity, as babies under 1-year-old often explore by using their tiny fingers and putting objects into their mouths.

The babies were immediately curious and engaged as they explored the sticky and slippery texture of the sago. They enjoyed touching and playing with the colorful eggs hidden within the sago and experienced the simple concept of transferring by picking up the eggs from the sticky mixture and placing them into water.

This sensory play provided a wonderful opportunity for the babies to enhance their tactile senses, helping them understand how sticky and slippery textures feel, move, and interact with objects. The activity also supported the development of their grasp and release reflexes, as they carefully managed their tiny fingers to hold the eggs and release them into the water.

Of course, one of the babies’ favorite parts was the water play, as they delighted in splashing and feeling the cool water. The combination of textures and movement—sticky sago, smooth eggs, and flowing water—stimulated their creativity and cognitive skills in a fun and engaging way.

This sensory play wasn’t just enjoyable but also meaningful, as it nurtured their fine motor skills, exploration, and early problem-solving abilities while keeping the experience safe and exciting for little learners. ***
