Baby Class – Sensory Activity: Sticky, Chewy, Texture Exploration
As the continuation of the learning theme “Food and Spices”, the babies explored the playground barefoot and found the plastic balls dipped into the sticky macaroni. They had a sensory activity about texture and it was connected to the “food” theme. Then, they had to transfer the eggs from the sticky macaroni to the water.
The cooked macaroni was mixed with the wet flour and the plastic balls were dipped into it. The sticky macaroni was chosen as the babies were introduced to soft, sticky and chewy texture. It was designed to stimulate their tactile competence. The balls were dipped into the mixture for attracting their attention, hence it would increase their willingness to explore the mixture. Moreover, the macaroni and flour were chosen as the edible ingredients for introducing the particular texture.
Introducing the babies with various textures aimed at enriching their experience about their surrounding. They would know in a simple way how something worked hence their problem solving skill and creativity would improve. They also learnt the way to connect what they had learnt in the classroom with the exploration and different media.
