Baby Class – Sensory Activity: Playing Xylophone
The babies had an activity to play the xylophone in the classroom. They were listened to the musical notation and introduced to one of the notation once a week using notation flash card and xylophone. They would have a chance to play the introduced note in turn
Introducing music notation to a baby is good because it helps develop their auditory and cognitive skills, including sound recognition, memory, and language abilities, by fostering a connection between sounds and symbols. They also learnt the way to take turn, sit nicely and hold the stick properly during playing it.
Moreover, playing xylophone is not merely about recognizing sound, taking turn and body coordination. Introducing various sound to babies earlier will help brain development. Similar to other sensory experiences like colours or textures, music helps create more pathways between brain cells, promoting cognitive growth. ***
