Baby Class – Motoric: Harvesting the Veggies

Baby Boom and Genius conducted a motoric activity in the playground area. As the babies were learning about vegetables this week, they found toy veggies “planted” in edible soil. They had to harvest the toy veggies, transfer them to a tray, and clean the veggies using water.

Through this activity, the babies learned about colours from the toy veggies. They were also introduced to the textures of the toys and the edible soil. The edible soil was made of biscuit and was chosen because it provided a safe medium for the babies. Nevertheless, the teacher encouraged the babies not to put their fingers, the toys, or the edible soil into their mouths, as real soil contains germs that can cause various diseases.

Promoting healthy habits is one of the goals of this activity, as consuming vegetables is important for babies’ growth. The activity also instilled knowledge that vegetables can be harvested from the soil and must be washed before consumption. Assisting the babies in safe play is equally important, as they need to learn which items can be eaten or placed in their mouths and which cannot as they grow older.
