Baby Class – Manual: Tasting Fruit

Babies took part in a fruit-tasting and self-feeding activity during circle time. In this activity, the babies sat together on the mat while being accompanied by teachers. They were introduced to a variety of fresh fruits such as bananas, apples, pear and grapes, which were served in small bowls. Babies were encouraged to explore the fruits by touching, picking them up, and tasting them independently using their hands or child-friendly utensils.

This activity supported babies’ development in many ways. Exploring different fruits helped stimulate their senses through various tastes, textures, and colors. The self-feeding process strengthened fine motor skills and hand–eye coordination, while also supporting oral motor development. In addition, being exposed to healthy foods from an early age helps babies build positive eating habits and increases their willingness to try new foods.

The lasting impact of this activity can be seen in babies’ growing independence and confidence during mealtime. Regular participation in self-feeding and food exploration activities helps babies develop autonomy, self-regulation, and a healthy relationship with food. These early experiences lay an important foundation for lifelong healthy habits, social interaction during meals, and readiness for more structured eating routines as babies continue to grow.
