Toddler – Learning Project: My Colourful Bird (Day 2)

On Day 2 of the “My Colourful Bird” Learning Project, toddlers continued their exploration of birds by reflecting on the Clever Bird moral story. This reflective activity served to reinforce lessons about resilience, teamwork, and caring for the environment, connecting prior learning to the day’s focus. This approach allowed students to bridge earlier discussions about bird habitats, body parts, and roles in nature with a deeper exploration of the topic.

The session emphasized understanding and application of knowledge. Through a combination of videos, puzzles, and teacher-led discussions, students revisited and reviewed key concepts. They identified bird body parts (beaks, wings, tails), their functions, and how these features help birds adapt to their environment by enabling them to find food, fly, and stay safe. Teachers guided students in analyzing how birds contribute to nature, such as by eating harmful insects or spreading seeds to promote plant growth. These activities helped students connect the physical traits of birds to their ecological importance, fostering a deeper appreciation of birds’ roles in maintaining environmental balance.

A hands-on group activity further encouraged students to apply their learning. Working collaboratively, they painted and assembled bird body parts, engaging in problem-solving to construct complete bird models. This task required teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity, as students had to discuss and decide how each part functioned and contributed to the whole. The activity also reinforced their understanding of how birds rely on their features to survive and thrive in nature.

By combining reflection, collaborative activities, and active exploration, students not only deepened their knowledge of birds but also developed important skills such as teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking. These experiences allowed them to connect what they learned to broader themes of environmental care and the interdependence of nature, providing a meaningful and engaging learning process. ***
