Toddler – Learning Project: My Colourful Bird (Day 1)

On the first day of the “My Colourful Bird” project, toddler students embarked on an exciting journey of discovery. Through the Look, Listen, Learn & Ask Tons of Questions phase, they explored a jungle diorama, interacted with bird toys, and participated in a fun guessing game. During the game, students practiced identifying bird pictures and naming their body parts, such as the head, body, legs, and tail, building their foundational knowledge about birds.

To help connect students’ knowledge of birds, the teacher introduced examples of birds with colorful feathers, such as macaws, toucans, and hornbills. In addition, the students learned about familiar Indonesian birds, including Cockatoos, Jalak Bali, Peacocks, and Love Birds, birds they might have seen as pets or in their environment. Using their bird observation books, which they had previously created, students shared their experiences of observing birds at home, making personal connections to the lesson.

To deepen their understanding, students watched videos showcasing the natural environment of birds in the jungle, observing how birds live and interact in their habitats. They also listened to a story about a clever bird, emphasizing that birds are not only colorful but also excellent communicators.

This multi-sensory exploration helped students recognize and categorize birds while fostering curiosity and excitement about the natural world. By observing, asking questions, and engaging in discussions, the toddlers began building a deeper understanding of birds and their environment. The “My Colourful Bird” project set the stage for future discoveries, sparking enthusiasm for learning through exploration and play. ***
