Secondary Level: Maths Orientation
At the beginning of this school year, Math teacher organized a fun and engaging diagnostic assessment for students from Secondary 1 to Secondary 3. The purpose of this activity was to find out students’ initial mathematical abilities while helping them recall previously learned concepts. Unlike traditional tests, this activity was intentionally designed to be informal and stress-free—turning assessment into an enjoyable experience.
In Secondary 1, students walked around the school to find 32 Math questions posted in different places. They only needed to choose and answer 5 questions by following a clear guide, making it feel like a fun treasure hunt. Meanwhile, Secondary 2 students took part in the “color-coded floor challenge,” where colored questions were placed on the floor, and each student selected 7 problems based on different color combinations. This activity offered both visual and physical stimulation that made learning more dynamic. For Secondary 3, students faced the “question pyramid” challenge, where problems increased in difficulty as they moved up each level. Students had to work through each question from left to right before they moving to the next tier.
This test not only gave teacher a picture of students’ current skills, but it also helped create a fun learning environment build confidence and reduce unease around mathematics. This activity marked a positive and meaningful start to the year’s learning journey. ***
