Secondary Level: Building Literacy Beyond the Classroom: A Book Review Session at Omah Buku Bahagia
Secondary 1 and Secondary 2 students participated in a meaningful Book Review Session at Omah Buku Bahagia, designed to foster literacy, creativity, and community awareness.
The program began with creative book review presentations, where students shared their reflections through creative expression: poems, letters to book characters, and alternate story endings while wearing costumes inspired by their chosen books.
Students then attended a sharing session on the impact of libraries on communities and society, led by Kak Ros from Omah Buku Bahagia. The discussion highlighted how libraries promote literacy, lifelong learning, and community engagement.
The learning continued with a practical library management session facilitated by students from the Library and Information Science Department (Ilmu Perpustakaan), UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta. Students also participated in a hands-on workshop on book labeling and coding, gaining insight into how library collections are organized and managed.
The event concluded with the presentation of book donations for the Focus Independent School Library and a special book-giving session for several selected students, encouraging a continued love of reading beyond the classroom.
Through literature, practical learning, and community engagement, students gained a deeper appreciation of the important role books and libraries play in personal growth and society.
