Secondary Level: Boundless Mathematics-Charity (BMC) 2025: Choosing Our Focus—The Challenge Cards

The Boundless Mathematics-Charity (BMC) 2025 movement is now moving toward action! Today, student teams successfully chose their specific charitable goals by selecting priority challenges for the three Panti (care homes). This crucial step finalises what each group will focus on solving, transforming general research into a focused mathematical project.

The main activity involved a Gallery Walk of Challenge Cards. These cards clearly outlined the urgent problems identified by the students. Teams analysed each card, thinking carefully about how serious the problem was and if they could realistically solve it using their skills and resources. This was a critical decision-making exercise.

After their careful review, each student had to formally write down the Challenge Card they chose and, importantly, explain the reasons for their decision. This required logical thinking: Why is this challenge the most important for the Panti? How will their solution create a lasting benefit? This step ensures their project choice is grounded in data and strong rationale, not just a gut feeling.

By the end of the day, every students tried to decide a single, clear, high-priority challenge. This decision gives them a clear path forward to start the solution design phase. They are now prepared to use their mathematics skills for real-world application—whether it is creating a detailed planning or modelling long-term support. ***
