Secondary Level: Beneficial Discussions With UPH Jakarta about Cyberbullying

Secondary FIS recently hosted a comprehensive educational event about cyberbullying. The event was structured to address the complexities of cyberbullying from two perspectives, involving both the student body and the school. This initiative aims to foster a culture of empathy and responsibility in the digital age, ensuring that the school community remains a safe place both offline and across various social media platforms.

The student session focused heavily on the immediate impact of online behaviour. Through interactive presentations, students explored the different faces of cyberbullying—from exclusionary group chats to the viral spread of misinformation. The guest speaker emphasised that “online actions have real-world consequences,” encouraging students to transition from being passive bystanders to active “upstanders” who support their peers and report harmful content through the appropriate medias.

Simultaneously, teachers attended a specialised session led by a different expert, focusing on pedagogical strategies and crisis intervention. While the students learned about digital etiquette, the teachers’ session delved into identifying subtle signs of digital distress and effectively mediating online conflicts. This session provided teachers with beneficial information ensuring that the school’s support system is able to handle modern-day bullying.

School reiterated that these sessions are a long-term commitment to mental health and digital literacy. By equipping both students and teachers with these knowledge, Secondary FIS is building awareness with an informed community.
