Secondary: English Speech Competition
Rizka Amalia Putri Laksana (Rizka) from Secondary 2 and Kirana Larasati Kartiko (Laras) from Secondary 3 recently participated in a speech competition organized by the Dinas Pendidikan Kota Surakarta. The competition consisted of two rounds: an online preliminary round and an in-person final round.
In the first round, participants submitted videos of their speeches. Rizka spoke about the influence of social media on teenagers, while Laras chose the topic of the joy and benefits of reading books. Out of 50 participants, only 10 were selected to advance to the final round. Impressively, Laras secured first place in the preliminary round, while Rizka placed third.
The final round took place on October 15, 2024, at SMP 1 Surakarta. This time, Rizka earned second place, and Laras took third, with a student from SMP 1 Surakarta winning first place. Both Rizka and Laras were later invited to the Dinas Pendidikan Kota Surakarta, where they received awards from the head of the Dinas Pendidikan in recognition of their achievements.
This competition provided Rizka and Laras with valuable experience and honed their public speaking skills. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and the hard work they put into representing our school. ***
