Secondary 3 – Visual Arts: Draw Realism (Food and Beverages)
Secondary 3 students learned about drawing realism on the theme of ‘Food and Drink’ in canvas media. At the beginning of the lesson, they were asked to bring some snacks from home to use as drawing references. Then they sketched them on the canvas and were given the freedom to choose the angle to draw the object. Before sketching, they were given some tips on how to sketch on a canvas, such as:
- Sketching on canvas was different from sketching on paper. The surface of the canvas was made of cotton.
- It is better to use wooden pencils than mechanical pencils when drawing on canvas because mechanical pencils can easily break the surface of the canvas.
- Make a light sketch with a pencil so that it is easier to erase.
Once they’d finished the sketch, they went on to color it in with acrylic paint. They were given a chance to explore their creativity through painting. ***
