Secondary 3 – PBL: Entrepreneurship

In their second project for the Entrepreneurship theme, the Secondary 3 students embarked on an exciting journey as a group of budding designers. Their challenge was to redesign the existing multi-purpose court. They had to consider the real needs of the users.

The project began with the students using PIES analysis, a technique they had already mastered. They conducted in-depth interviews with Ms Tika, who represented their target user, to explore her needs and expectations. This interaction wasn’t just an exercise in data collection; it was a window into the real-world implications of their designs.

Armed with this insight, the students set about creating their design. The twist? They had to work within a set budget, a constraint that sparked creativity rather than stifling it. This phase of the project tested their innovation and ingenuity. They juggled aesthetics, functionality and financial constraints.

The initial design presentation to Mrs Tika was a moment of truth. The feedback they received was a goldmine of information that helped them refine their concepts. The students embraced this feedback, not as criticism, but as valuable insights to perfect their work.

The moment had come. The students presented their final designs to Mrs Tika. The air was thick with excitement and a sense of achievement. Not only had they designed a multi-functional courtyard, but they had gone through the real-life process of empathizing, designing, budgeting and iterating – skills that go far beyond the classroom. ***
