Secondary 3 – Maths: Designing a Safe Ramp
Secondary 3 mathematicians put Pythagoras’ Theorem into real-world action by designing a safe, practical ramp for the school’s sky court!
Given a fixed height of 3.6 meters, student teams calculated different base lengths to find the ideal hypotenuse (ramp incline) that would be safe and accessible. After choosing their best design, teams built scale models and went head-to-head in presentations—challenging each other’s calculations and defending their ramp blueprints using mathematical evidence.
By transforming a geometric formula into an engineering solution, Secondary 3 sharpened their problem-solving, scale modeling, and critical reasoning skills!
