Secondary 3 – English: Promoting a Product

In the Secondary 3 theme on advertisements, students explored the language and techniques used to create effective promotions. They learned that advertisements rely on powerful and persuasive language to capture attention and motivate audiences. The class also studied various advertising techniques such as using humor, emotional appeal, and endorsements to influence the audience’s response.

After building a foundational understanding, students were assigned a project to promote a product they had used. They were tasked with creating their own advertisements, applying the persuasive techniques they had studied. Each student developed an ad, carefully selecting words and imagery to make their product appealing and engaging.

As a part of the project, students presented their advertisements to the class in a peer-testing session. Their classmates acted as the audience, voting for the most persuasive ad and providing constructive feedback. This feedback allowed students to evaluate whether their advertisement was impactful or if adjustments were needed to strengthen their message.

This hands-on project allowed students to apply their knowledge of persuasive language and advertising techniques in a real-world context. By receiving feedback from peers, they could analyze the effectiveness of their approach, enhancing their understanding of what makes an advertisement truly compelling. Through this activity, students not only practiced creative and strategic thinking but also developed critical skills in evaluating and refining their work based on audience response. ***
