Secondary 3 – English: Drama
Exploring Complex Themes was the last theme Secondary 3 students learned in semester 2. One of the materials in the theme was drama. In the topic, the students were expected to be able to learn from William Shakespeare’s successful play, Romeo and Juliet. The students studied what made the play popular in the era. They also learned the script and how the language used had influenced the audience. As the task, the students were challenged to modify the script into a modern version, using modern English. The task was done in small groups. Not only the language, but they also had to adjust the details of the play into the modern version. Besides, they were asked to think of the property and costume for their drama performance. The students were given several times to practice at school. There were some aspects that they had to consider such as the voice, blocking, and acting/stage performance. On the drama day, all students understood their roles that allowed the drama to run successfully. ***
