Secondary 3 – Chemistry: Rate of Reaction

The reaction is one of the natural chemistry processes that might happen anywhere and anytime. In this lesson, Secondary 3 students learned to compare the rate of reaction between two objects which has a different surface area. They used a tablet of Enervon C and water as the material.

The apparatus they used was a beaker, measuring glass, thermometer, spatula, stopwatch, and Petri dish. First, they have to cut the tablet of Enervon C into 8 pieces. Then they put it in the beaker which was filled with 10 ml of water. They had to count how long the tablet dissolved by using a stopwatch.

For the second experiment, they had to grind the tablet into powder and repeat the procedure as before. The result was the powder dissolved faster than the 8 pieces because it had a larger surface area. Students were super excited about this activity. After the experiment, they made a report about the data result and conclusion. ***
