Secondary 3 – Biology: Gametogenesis
Secondary 3 students learned about gametogenesis. Gametogenesis is the biological process by which gametes (reproductive cells) are produced in sexually reproducing organisms. It involves the development and maturation of sex cells which are the sperm in males and ova (eggs) in females. This process ensures that gametes have half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell, allowing for the restoration of the full chromosome number when two gametes fuse during fertilization. There are two main types of gametogenesis: spermatogenesis and oogenesis.
As a prior process, they learned about cell division and then continued by learning spermatogenesis and oogenesis. After learning about it, they made a diagram of the process. The activities designed break the complex processes into step-by-step visual products that make them easier to follow and understand. They were engaged during the activity.
