
Secondary 2 – Visual Arts: Emotional Landscape
Secondary 2 students learnt about making a personal creation that connect with nature and mood, emotions or memory under the theme ‘Emotional Landscape’. They were asked to draw their favourite landscape, like mountain, river, forest, etc with the combination of their personal colours that symbolise their characters. For the product, they made it through painting in the canvas.
At first, students were having discussion about the artwork, start with how colours influence each personality in daily life, experience with nature was different for every personalities, etc. Then, they continued to do an exploration through internet to identify more references about the theme and kinds of landscape as well. After that, they made the draft and sketch of their plan in paper. Next, students applied their ideas into painting in canvas. In addition, the students also gave words or sentences to represent their personal landscape, it can be in form of poem, storytelling or song lyrics. They added it into their painting.
There are some values that students can take from this activities. First, this learning activities enhance the students’ creativity to visualise their experiences or personal life through painting. The students also given chance to reflect more on their personality by choosing their favourite colours together with the narrative story that they insert into the painting. Furthermore, they can also build confidence to share their personality through presentation and also given respect to their own creation and others as well.
