Secondary 2 – Visual Arts: Arts Inspired by Nature
Secondary 2 students learned about the connection between arts and nature. As part of the project, students were asked to identify natural objects found around the Secondary area. They then selected some of these objects as the main materials to create an art product such as a drawing, painting, poem, sculpture, or song. These creations were combined with charcoal sticks and acrylic paints as coloring media on canvas.
The activity began with a classroom discussion between the teacher and students, focusing on artworks inspired by the beauty of nature. After the discussion, students went outside the classroom to observe and find natural objects, while also completing a worksheet. They answered questions about elements such as the appearance, texture patterns, and colors of the objects they found. Students also made preliminary sketches of their chosen natural objects as drafts. In addition, they were allowed to find inspiration for their artwork through the internet.
During the creation process, students used canvas as the medium, with natural objects, charcoal, and acrylic paint for coloring. Finally, they completed their artworks by giving a title and writing a reflection on their creative experience.
These learning activities, conducted both inside and outside the classroom, encouraged students to use their imagination and express their feelings through creative artworks. Each student brought their own ideas and perspectives to the theme. Furthermore, they provided feedback and suggestions on their peers’ work, offering different points of view and ideas for improvement—allowing everyone to grow and enhance their art skills for the future. ***
