Secondary 2 – English: Gaining Data through Interview
Secondary 2 students were tasked with creating a leaflet about the top three dangers of the internet for teenagers. This activity encouraged them to delve into real-world issues while developing skills in research, data analysis, and creativity.
To ensure the information presented was valid and accurate, students began by reading references from trusted sources to gather foundational knowledge about internet dangers. To add depth to their work, they conducted interviews to collect firsthand insights from teenagers about their internet experiences. Students developed their own interview questions and gathered responses from classmates and students from other levels.
Once the data was collected, students worked in small groups to analyze and organize the information. They compared their findings from both references and interviews, determining the most relevant points to include in their leaflets. This process required them to evaluate sources, synthesize information, and identify key patterns, fostering their critical thinking skills.
After analyzing the data, students focused on designing the leaflet. They worked collaboratively to create visually appealing and informative layouts, combining text and visuals to communicate their findings effectively. This stage not only enhanced their understanding of the dangers of the internet but also stimulated their creativity as they crafted their designs to appeal to their target audience.
Through this project, students engaged in multi-level learning: researching, questioning, analysing, and creating. They not only gained a deeper understanding of internet safety but also developed essential skills in critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. The activity provided a meaningful way for students to connect academic learning to real-world challenges while empowering them to raise awareness among their peers. ***
