Secondary 2 – English: Becoming a News Anchor

Secondary 2 students learned about newspapers: features, language, bias, and quotes. They also learned to read a news item. First, they watched some news anchors reading the news and discussed what had to be considered in reading a news item for the audience. After the students understood the strategy for reading a news item, they were given a news item to read and practice reading as a class.

Then, they were asked to find a partner and practice reading the news in pairs. Next, they were asked to use a teleprompter when reading the news item. Lastly, they did the recording of the news reading. This activity can develop confidence, composure, and polish to deliver information to an audience effectively. ***
