Secondary 2: Design Informative/Persuasive Leaflets on Teen Character/Internet Safety
Secondary 2 students recently completed an engaging project, creating a leaflet. In groups, they had to create an informative or persuasive leaflet, delivering meaningful information to the readers or trying to persuade the readers to change their behavior. The theme for the girls was “What character traits teenagers should develop” and for the boys was “The dangers of the internet for teenagers.” The goal was to raise awareness among their peers about how to build positive character and stay safe online — two topics that are increasingly relevant in today’s digital age.
First, the students gained knowledge about the topic by undertaking thorough research. They read articles and studies from trusted sources, ensuring that the information they would later include was accurate and credible. To deepen their understanding, they also collected real-life data by conducting interviews with fellow teenagers and making direct observations about teen behavior and internet usage.
Next, they analyzed the data and gained insight into the topic. After getting the insight and conclusions, they learned to organize the information and select the important points to include in the leaflets. Then, they were challenged to think critically about how to communicate effectively, considering their target audience and the purpose of the leaflet. They also had to carefully think of the language, layout, and design to ensure the message was not only informative but also engaging and easy to understand.
After completing the leaflet, they had to present their leaflet in front of the teacher. In the presentation, they were asked to share the process of making the leaflet, making sure they understood the core principles in creating a leaflet.
The series of activities demonstrated the students’ ability to combine research, analysis, creativity, and collaboration.
