Secondary 2 – Cambridge Global Perspective: Make a Difference in Our Community
Our Secondary 2 students had an engaging group activity. They explored local newspapers to identify issues faced by their community. It showed them how media reports can reflect the current concerns and challenges of their neighbours.
Working together, they carefully read and scanned the articles to find problems that affect people in their area. Students highlighted the issues directly from the texts and then listed them clearly in their worksheets. They practiced key research skills, learning to distinguish between factual reporting and opinion pieces while focusing on the core community problems.
The activity encouraged critical thinking, teamwork, and awareness of real-world challenges around them, helping students connect classroom learning with their local community. Ultimately, this exercise fostered a sense of civic responsibility, motivating them to think about how they could contribute to positive change in their own town. ***
