Secondary 2 – Biology: Urinary System

Secondary 2 students learned about the diseases in the urinary system. At first, they gained knowledge from the slides and peer discussions. They also got the information from the teacher’s explanation, such as the definition of the diseases, the symptoms, the causes, and the treatment for those diseases. After that, they started to make a mind map based on their understanding of the diseases. During the learning process, they actively asked and gave others ideas.

Creating a mind map serves several valuable functions for students, helping with learning and productivity. Instead of writing long paragraphs, students can use key phrases, symbols, and colours to make notes quicker to review and easier to remember. Mind maps show relationships between main ideas and subtopics, helping students grasp how things are connected. They could explore multiple angles of a topic and come up with creative solutions or insights.

When students regularly create mind map products, whether for assignments, presentations, or study materials, they gain several long-term benefits that go beyond just learning the topic. Regularly creating mind maps trains students to structure ideas logically, an important skill for essays, presentations, and real-world tasks. If students consistently create mind maps, they essentially build a habit of strategic thinking, which benefits them across subjects. ***
