Secondary 2 – Biology: Kidney

Secondary 2 students learned about the Kidneys as one of the important organs in the human body. They gained detailed knowledge about the structure of the kidney, its function, and the process of urine formation.

At first, they learned the structure of the kidney, starting from the outer layer up to the inner part of it. They also gained an understanding of its function throughout the learning and the discussion happening in the classroom. After that, they studied the process of urine formation in the nephron.

They drew the kidney’s structure during the exercise and labeled its name part. They made it and drew it carefully based on the picture provided in the slides. This task can be beneficial for them to strengthen their understanding of the important parts of the kidney. Besides, it can also be as recalling part from the knowledge they have got previously. They were stimulated to connect the information so that it would be meaningful and remain in their long-term memory.

Learning the material about kidneys, not only from the material context they are developed, but it can also raise their awareness to maintain their kidneys in a healthy condition. They learn that keeping themselves hydrated, eating real food, and doing exercise regularly will help to maintain the kidney’s healthy and function properly. This knowledge is close to their daily life and the benefit for their future.
