Secondary 2 – Biology: Blood Vessels
Secondary 2 students participated in a science activity about the human circulatory system. They began by recalling key facts about the three main types of blood vessels: arteries, veins, and capillaries. Each group listed their functions and examples from the body.
After reviewing the facts, students sorted information into categories. They compared the differences in structure, blood flow direction, pressure, and oxygen content between arteries and veins. This helped them decide how to organize the layout of their mind maps.
Students then worked individually to create a mind map showing connections between the types of vessels, their functions, and their importance in delivering nutrients and removing waste. They made strategic choices about colors, symbols, and linking arrows to clarify relationships.
Finally, each group presented its mind map to the class, explaining not only the facts but also how these blood vessels work together to keep the body alive. Some students connected the circulatory pathways to real-life health issues, such as hypertension and heart disease, demonstrating a deeper understanding. ***
